Objective: Find an example of a photograph where the photographer has used a very fast shutter speed and describe the subject matter including the background. Discuss any technical difficulties the photographer may have encountered and how he or she may have overcome them.
-Discuss what happened to the depth of field and why
-Discuss weather the image gives you the feeling of movement, stating the reasons for your conclusion
In this photograph, the shutter speed was set very high in order to catch the details in the seconds when the bubble popped. Within the bubble, you can clearly see the reflection and the vibrant blues and purples and even hints of yellow. I find it highly appealing that the photograph allows you to see the bubble that is in the progress of popping. The images gives me the feeling that the bubble is slowly disintegrating. This is because of the direction in witch everything is traveling and of coarse, the shards of soapy water that are spraying over the surface of the bubble. The depth of field became more shallow because the photographer wanted our attention to be on the bubble popping and more importantly why it was popping (because of the hand of coarse!) Some difficulties the photographer had to overcome was of coarse, finding the right second in witch the bubble was about to pop. I'm sure there were many frustrating pictures before this master piece was created! This would have been overcome by retaking the shot until he/she reached the desired effect.

Objective: Find a photograph where the photographer has used a slow shutter speed and describe the subject matter including the background. Discuss any technical difficulties the photographer may have encountered and how these may have been over come.
The photographer could have run into the difficulties of the 'sparks' blurring or streaking. These may have been overcome by testing the theory of the image first and adjusting the shutter speed accordingly to achieve the desired effect. The background is blurred out, though if one looks close enough you can detect what appears to be a back wall. The subjects themselves hold a very romantic atmosphere. The images makes on feel happy and encouraged. The contrast is very well defined and the colors are very interesting; my eye is instantly drawn to the umbrella because of how vivid it is compared to the rest of the image. The sparks add an almost cliche effect to the piece, giving it warmth and layers of light. Overall, I very much enjoyed the composition of this piece.

Objective: Look at a Henri Cartier-Bresson photograph and discuss why you think the decisive moment has added to the picture's quality.
In looking at this picture, you could say that the subjects that are placed within heavily influence the backdrop. If you were to take away the subjects, it would simply be a landscape of what appears to be a grave yard int he background with a small puddle of flood in the front. While it would hold a characterized emotion, I believe the picture would like slightly lacking. This moment in particular is captured very uniquely. It is the seconds when the subject is leaping from his stance on what looks like hastily strewn together planks of wood and into the water. Their feet are not touching the water yet, so no ripples have yet appeared from where they will fall. Rather, it is the anticipation of what we know will come.
